Dear friends,

Good news to share with you all!

Supreme Court of India has announced judgement today in Public Interest Litigation namely Parivartan Kendra Vs Union of India and others filed in 2013 through Varsha Jawalgekar, Secretary Parivartan Kendra. Honorable court had announced 10 lakhs as compensation to each acid attack victim/survivors.

An interim judgement in the same PIL is also extraordinary and progressive. Court ordered that private hospitals have to give proper and urgent treatment to the acid attack survivors free of cost. If they deny, they will face contempt of court.

In Bihar, the compensation in 2013 while filing this PIL was only twenty five thousand rupees. The compensation has increased 40 times in Bihar in comparison to previous.

Congratulations to all the acid attack survivors/ strugglers and all those who are working with them for their cause.

With regards

Varsha
