First time in Nagaland: World Music day celebrations

From 4:30 pm on Tuesday, World Music day erupted in Kohima.

“In times of rain and bad roads, to keep our spirit high” noted Musician Theja Meru said while announcing that the World Music Day 2016 would be celebrated in Kohima for the first time on June 21, 4.30 pm at RCEMPA Jotsoma.

“This is the first time in Kohima. This is the best line up that we have come up with. The artists are performing for free,” said Melekhoto Pucho from Symphony Productions adding that the day is also a time for music lovers and musicians to build friendships and encourage each other.

“It is going to be a day of dance, rock music, pop music, techno, everything under the roof,” stated Theja Meru while sharing the international significance of the day as Kohima celebrates with the rest of the world. “There is so much energy and talent but the platform is always a question mark. We have a place especially through this platform. We also want to show that we are not just about bad roads, guns. We want to show our true colours, tell the world all the good things in Nagaland, the colourful ones,” asserted Meru.

The celebration Kohima is presented by Symphony Production and supported by Music Task Force (MTF) and in collaboration with San production, Indihut, Unitex, Baptist College Kohima, Kros College, The Heritage, Innovations, Naga musicians, Seven and Kemp Design.

The event featured the most popular artists in Nagaland such as Alobo Naga and the Band, Divine Connection, Polar Lights, Dexterians, Metet Jamir, Virie + Zaza, Moatoshi Jamir, Oren Mozhui, Girls Excess, Rodeo Clowns, Pezet Newme, Vimezo Iralu, Pezet Bokato, Gideon, Avilie Noune, Atso.

A special tribute to Late Lamtsala will be performed by Purple Fusion featuring Moatoshi.

Special attractions of the celebration include a two hour choral workshop by Vimezo Iralu, one of the finest pianists and conductors in Nagaland. The workshop is for free. The event also provided Free Bus Service as well as free refreshments.

Kohima Village, the Biggest Village in Asia celebrated World Music Day on June 21 at Mission Compound, 4:00 p.m. onwards. The event is organized by DKs Entertainment Group and supported by MTF and Orient Enterprises.

The day was celebrated under the theme “Tapping the untapped Talents” by giving platform to the many underprivileged upcoming young artistes.

The legendary Naga musician, Methaneilie Solo (Jütakhrie) was the Chief Guest during the programme.

The one and only winner of MTV Indian Desi Rock Beat Contest, Divine Connection (DC) performed and also gave away certificates to the participants. There will be an interactive session with the DC members followed by autograph and Photo session.

The program was free entry and Everyone has been invited to witness the celebration for ‘Peace and Harmony through Music’. Various artistes who have registered for the event included Menz Wear, Keduolhoutuo, Gugu, Kevi Kire, Kenei Sorhie, The Last Glance 4x, Kennedy Chiru, Kenny and the Faith Band, Menuoseü Sorhie, Sevi Khruomo, Sinya Kath, Kenei Khoubvu, Vision Trinity, Ajung Imchen, Meren, King Chilli, Keziah Semy, The Black Shades, Keziah Meru and kekhrie Thepa, Cotton Country. DKs Ent Group Program Coordinator Khrievotuo Sekhose  invited music lovers and people from all walks of life to come and participate in the event. Fun Crew Team will provide voluntary support to the event and the organizers informed people coming for the concert to bring umbrella, just in case it rained….
