Essence of Christmas

Christmas is one of the most auspicious and most awaited festivals of the year amongst every individual and specially among the Christians. It is the time when according to the Bible, Jesus Christ was born. Just like any other festival, Christmas too has its own customs and traditions. Though these customs and traditions varies from place to place but some of the common traditions of Christmas are :xmas

  1. Greeting cards and gifts

People exchange gifts and cards among each other. According to an old story, a big fat old man called Santa Claus comes every year on Christmas to reward children who have been good throughout the year. And so little innocent children wait eagerly for Santa to bring them gifts.

  1. Decorating the Christmas tree

Of course how could one even imagine Christmas without a Christmas tree. People all over the world irrespective of their culture show full enthusiasm in decorating their Christmas tree and increasing the pride of their living room. It is the time when the whole family comes together and enjoy decorating their Christmas tree.

  1. Christmas games

In many places people like to play Christmas games like the ‘Christmas Friends’. In this game people write down their names on a chit of paper and shuffle them with  other chits. Then they randomly pick one  each and secretly give gifts or small messages to the person whose name is they have picked. This game is mostly played few days before the Christmas Eve and finally on Christmas they reveal the names of the person on their chits.

  1. Carols and plays

Almost every school and college organises a program on the occasion of Christmas day where students perform various carols, prayer dances and plays based on the Christmas theme. Christian people prepare songs for Christmas Eve which they sing in the church and celebrate the birth of Jesus.

  1. Christmas dinner

Now this is my personal favourite thing about Christmas. This is the time of the year where people for some good reason forget about their diets and extra calories. All they care about is cakes, Christmas puddings, cookies and every kind of sweets which will definitely boost up their calories intake for sure.
