Prohibition solves Bihar’s problems: Nitish

Kisanganj (Bihar): Accidents, murders, kidnapping, all down because of the liquor ban, says the Bihar Chief Minister, he even claims that it has promoted ‘religious harmony’

Defending his total prohibition move prohibition as a “revolutionary step”, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today (8 December) claimed that the move has promoted communal harmony in the state, with members of all religions supporting the liquor ban.
“The decision of liquor ban has further promoted communal harmony in Bihar as members of all religions are whole heartedly supporting booze ban, which is a revolutionary step,” he said addressing a ‘Chetna Sabha’ here as part of his ‘Nishchay Yatra’.
Accompanied by Excise and Prohibition Minister Abdul Jalil Mastan and Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, the CM highlighted “positive effects” of liquor ban.
“The road accidents have come down by 19 per cent between April and November this year when compared to the same period last year,” Kumar said.
The booze ban has also substantially lowered rate of crimes like murder, kidnapping and riots in the state, he said.
“Cases of murder have gone down by 24 per cent between April to November this year when compared to the same period last year. Likewise, incidents of loot came down by 16 per cent, kidnapping for ransom by 48 per cent and riots by 37 per cent,” Kumar said.
As part of the Nishchay Yatra, the Chief Minister is taking feedback from people about prohibition.
He asserted that liquor ban had resulted in economic prosperity of the state, which is reflected by rise in the sale of cars and tractors, milk and sweets in the last seven months since prohibition came into force.
The JD(U) leader told the gathering about the human chain which would be formed by more than two crore citizens on January 21 in favour of the ban, and urged people to participate in it.

If you read my comment carefully, I have mentioned “some areas”,where I mean changes are seen among the BPL people, the husband’s beat their wives after they are drunk. Also,it has decreased the no.of accidents in the city. Little enhancement in the economy of poor people.
Maybe you are right with your statement of Christmas cakes and dishes.

Behold. The magic panacea for every evil! Ban the bottle!
    Utter nonsense. Bah! Humbug!

I agree with you, to ban the bottles can’t be the cure for all problems. But, if you consider yourself updated with the news then you’ll find some areas where this ban has shown a healthy response to some evils in the society.

Some people need to get an update on the use of the English language. How can a ban, which is inanimate, show a ‘healthy response’ to “some evils’ in society? Do you mean ‘the ban has brought about some healthy changes in some areas of Bihar’?

@ Kaveri. The ridiculous and pompous statement of the Chief Minister Bihar deserves a big thumbs down.Do drunken people kidnap others for ransom? How many alcoholics does it take to commit a murder? Stuff and nonsense.
Do you know that a real Christmas cake must have raisins soaked in Rum? Do you know that without sherry or white wine, scores of celebratory dishes cannot be prepared? Do you know that this boorish move to ban liquor is resented by most truly civilized people? perhaps not. But then, you will not know how painful it is to see people with limited experience flaunt their narrow minds and limited worldview in ill thought out comments!
