Woman Power and Bollywood

Woman Power and Bollywood

Sir,

2016 has been a year of many changes and developments, big or small, be it in politics or Bollywood.

In 2016, Bollywood was all about woman power. Women were depicted in a unique and extraordinary image when compared to how Bollywood has traditionally dealt with women characters.

The recently released ‘Dangal’ had four female actors. The movie inspite of having such a great actor Aamir Khan in a central role focuses heavily on the film’s female actors. The film being away from romance and a dramatic script was based on the struggle faced by the two sisters to prove themselves in the field of wrestling. Another best example showing woman as the lead character in the movie was SonamKapoor’s ‘Neerja’. Her performance in this movie was truly a revelation. The movie was a biopic of a flight attendant NeerjaBhanot who sacrificed her life to save the passengers in the plane that was hijacked.

It was not just these two movies in which female actors proved that they are now ready to stand beside the male actors. If we look back at the other movies of 2016 like Sultan, Dear Zindagi, Pink, Kahaani 2, etc we can see that in all these movies the female actors have shown that today’s women are excelling in every part of their life. The credit for such movies goes to the filmmakers who took an initiative of bringing such movies among the audience.

Yours truly,
