Theatre Festival: Bharat Rang Mahotsav in Patna

Patna: The 19th Bharat Rang Mahotsav’s parallel theatre festival was inaugurated in the city at Premchand Rangshala. The festival opened  with the English  play ‘ A Stranger Guest’ performed by Vera Berzak Schneider Theatre Group from Israel. It was directed by Vera Berzak Schneider.

The extravaganza is presented by National School of Drama in Collaboration with the department of youth, arts and culture, Govt. of Bihar. The festival is a six days long event from Feb 7 to 12.

This is an extension of the Bharat Rang Mahotsav festival held every year in Delhi by the National School of Drama.

This is the fourth time the event is being held at different cities across the states alongside Delhi. The previous three editions of the festival has been held in cities like Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow, Bhopal, Chennai, Jaipur, Amritsar, Imphal, Guwahati.

The event is to be held simultaneously in five cities- Kurushetra (3-8 Feb), Agartala(5-10 Feb), Patna (7-12 Feb), Pune (9-14 Feb) and Hyderabad (11- 16 Feb). The festival is already active from 1Feb in Delhi, being held at 7 centres across the capital and will end at 21 Feb.

Artists from 12 countries all over the globe along with India have participated in the event-  England, Russia, Italy, Israel, Turkey, Afganistan, Tazakistan, Romania, Malaysia, Sri-Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh. 16 theatre groups from across different states in India have been selected to enact the plays.

As many as 94 plays including 15 foreign plays are to be presented in the five cities.

The six day long festival in the city is to witness plays in English, Marathi, Bengali, Hindi and non- verbal language. Theatre groups from Israel, Nasik, Howrah, Bangladesh, Sri- Lanka and Delhi are going to enact the plays. .
