Pakistani parody of Indian folk song goes viral

A latest Indian folk music video with many satirical takes has gone viral in Pakistan after a gaggle parodied it to touch upon latest political turmoil.

A bunch known as Karachi Vynz wrote and filmed an Urdu model of the Marathi language music Sonu, to discuss the resignation of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The popular Marathi language song – Sonu has already had several satirical takes and has gone viral in various local Indian languages. The song that refers to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s chief (current opposition leader)Imran Khan as ‘Immu’ celebrates his stance over the ‘corruption charges’ against Sharif.

The song includes stanzas that begin with “Immu humain aap pe bharosa sahi thaa” (Immu, we were right to trust you) that  are repeated throughout the one-minute long video.

Band Founder Mansoor Qureshi said, they aim to make people happy and described themselves as a freelance comedian who wants to make video go viral, as reported by the news report.

“We keep tabs on what is happening on social media to get something exciting. We then play with it to make funny, interesting and amusing content for our viewers,” he added

Mr Qureshi also stated that they were not supporting one politician over another, explaining that Mr Khan’s popularity on social media made him a good subject for the song.

The song had gained more than a million views on You Tube and Facebook. Supporters of both politicians have left thousands of comments on the video, which was posted days after the Pakistani Supreme Court disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from office last week.
