Harm of Addiction

Harm of Addiction

Sir,

Addiction is chronic disease characterized by drug seeking  and use which is compulsive, or difficult to control, despite of harmful consequences.

The initial decision is to taking drugs is voluntary for most people, but repeated drug use can lead to brain changes that challenges an addicted person’s self-control & interfere with their ability to resist intense urges to take drugs.

Injecting drug users usually a shared experience

Many people don’t understand why or how other people become addicted to drugs. They may mistakenly think that those who use drug lacks moral principles or willpower & that they could stop their drug use simply by choosing it.
Drug addiction is a complex disease,  and  quitting usually takes more than good intentions or strong will.

As a person continues to use drugs, the brain adjusts to the excess dopamine by making less of it or reducing the ability of cells in the reward circuit to respond to it. This reduces the high that the person feels compared to the high that they felt when first taking the drug. It can also cause them to get less pleasure from other things they once enjoyed. Long-term use also causes changes in other brain chemical systems, and circuit as well, affecting functions.

The main harm of addiction is the loss of self. People are destroying their health by trashing their integrity, by abandoning their personal relationships and by giving up dreams for the sake of drugs.

According to bible, anything and everything done in excess is an addiction. If someone is even listening to excessive music, that is an addiction and hence a sin.
Funfact- Eating sugar also releases dopamine in your brain, thus excessive consumption of it can also account for addiction.
