On the 7th June 2018, our former president Shri Pranab Mukherjee gave a speech at the concluding function of the Third Year Annual Training Camp (Tritiya Varsh Vargas) of RSS that is Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, at Nagpur.
He has started his speech by greeting, Sarsangchalak Shri Mohan Bhagwat, delegates and audience. At the very beginning, he talked about the Nation, Nationalism and Patriotism. He has described, these terms very beautifully. In his speech he has explained the history of India in a remarkable way. He has mentioned about the ancient universities of India like Takshashila, Nalanda and many more. He has stated the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam [वसुधेव कुटुम्बकम] and Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramayan (we see the whole world as one family and pray for the happiness and good health of all). He has said this line so that the RSS can follow this philosophy and work in a better way.
In the history, he talked about the different dynasties of India like Mauryan, Gupta and also about the Mughal emperors. If anyone wants to know about the history of India can read and listen to his speech. He/she will get all the glimpse of ancient India (Bharat). In the modern Indian state, he has discussed the Indian National Congress. Afterwards, he says “I am convinced that Nationalism can only come out of the ideological fusion of Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and other groups in India.” He has stated this line because it is said by the other parties that RSS, mainly focuses on Hindu, it is a Hindutva party. But the members of RSS say that no it is not a Hindutva party it is a secular party. Everyone is equal because we all stand as an Indian”Bhartiya”.
In his speech, the Constitution of India is also elaborated in a meaningful way. He says ‘For us, Democracy is not a gift, but a sacred trust’. ‘The soul of India resides in pluralism and tolerance’ said Mukherjee. It means that India India is a secular and diverse country.” India is a country of 1.3 billion people who use more than 122 languages and 1600 dialects in their everyday lives, practice 7 major religions, belong to 3 major ethnic groups who live under one system, one flag and one identity of being ‘Bhartiya’ and have ‘No Enemies’. That is what makes Bharat a diverse and united nation stated former president. His concept of being Bhartiya has mesmerized the audience. He has also thrown light on the present day scenario that is violence, physical as well as verbal, which is increasing like anything nowadays.
At the end of the speech, he says “In the happiness of the people lies the happiness of the king, their welfare is his welfare”. King or the government is the one who can make or break any nation. They should work, by keeping in mind the overall development of the nation, not just focusing on the particular section of the society or nation as a whole.
According to me, this is the best speech I have ever heard. I think everyone should listen to it at least once. Our former president has explained each and every aspect (geography, political, history etc.) of India in a very beautiful way. Peace and harmony are the only things which can create a happy nation.
