Overpopulation: need for action

Overpopulation is an alarming issue of today’s world. It creates hindrance in the social and economic growth of a nation. It is one of the biggest problems for the state and the nation. Everyone knows it, but what is being done about it?

Problems of overpopulation are mostly faced by developing nations than the developed countries,  but they affect most of the earth as of now. ‘Population control will not solve all our problems, but other problems will not be solved without population control’, said Dr. Bhabha, the eminent Indian scientist.

India is the most populated country with the 2nd ranking in the world population, after China.

Lack of family planning, illiteracy, superstitions is some of the cause for overpopulation. Most of the developing nations have large numbers of people who are illiterate, live below the poverty line and have little or no knowledge about family planning. Early age marriage increases the chance of producing more kids. People are unable to understand the harmful effects of overpopulation and lack of quality education which force them to avoid family planning measures.

The effects of growing population are the depletion of natural resources, rise in unemployment, high cost of living. Earth can only produce a limited amount of water and food and these precious resources are falling short because of the growing number of people. Overpopulated countries gives rise to unemployment because only a few jobs are left. Unemployment gives rise to decrease in economic status of the people and the nation as whole .Due to this crime rates are increasing, as people will steal  to feed their family and provide them with the basic needs of life. Difference between demand and supply are expanding due to over population and it raises the prices of various commodities including food, shelter and healthcare.

The problem of overpopulation can be solved if better education will be provided to people, if they are aware of family planning and have knowledge of sex education.
