On 31st July the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola was celebrated on the twin campuses of St. Xavier’s and St. Xavier’s College of Mgmt. & Tech. The program started with the lighting of lamp by the chief guest Fr. Donald Miranda SJ, Rev. T.Nishant SJ (principal), Rev. Joseph Thadanaval (rector), Rev. Martin Porres and other staff membes of the college.
A prayer song and a dance performance were performed.
Xaverians performed a drama depicting the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola, how he attained enlightenment after the battle of Pamplona, after which he devoted his life providing service and knowledge to people.
Feast day is celebrated to remember St. Ignatius of Loyola who taught the world to devote our best to God. He formed the Society of Jesus that aims to spread knowledge all around and make an egalitarian society. St. Ignatius’s words “Ad majorem dei gloriam” means for the greater glory of god drives the basic foundation of the Jesuits society.
Fr. T. Nishant SJ says “St. Ignatius was a passionate man and was totally inspired by Christ during his conversion (knee injury phase) after which he completely devoted himself towards the teaching of God. Being passionate is the most important thing to be successful”. “We celebrate this day to remember him, who is a model to us and who inspires us to serve others and strive for excellence” he added.
Seema Kujur, a student says “the life of St. Ignatius inspire us to become a good human being. His saying “what it profits a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul” inspires people to work towards the upliftment of the society and to help each other for the same”.
Chief guest Fr. Donald Miranda SJ, who is the provincial superior of the Society of Jesus, addressed the students about the importance of the feast day and teaching of St. Ignatius. He asked students to be their best and serve mankind for the greater glory of god.
After his address, certificates were awarded to some students for their achievements. The program ended with national anthem.
A basketball match was organized after the celebration.
