The 10% reservation for economically weak among general category candidates in admissions and jobs came into effect on January 14 this year after the 103rd amendment to the constitution. The state government notified it on February 26. But the revised reservation policy for admission in colleges and universities has not been notified by the education department till date.

The process of admission to various undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes for the new academic session have already started, but  they are yet to provide 10% reservation to the students belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS) in general category. Admission list is being finalized as per the old reservation policy.

According to the officials, no university has received any communication to this effect either by the state government or from the chancellor’s secretariat.

Pataliputra University pro-VC Girish Kumar Chaudhary said the university could not wait for the government notification on revised reservation policy. Moreover, the government would also have to increase the number of seats in different courses before providing 10% reservation to the students of EWS in general category, as per local media.

Munger University VC Ranjit Kumar Verma also said the admission process has already started on the old pattern. The latest provision of reservation can be implemented only after the university receives the state government’s directive soon.

Patna University admits students to undergraduate courses on the basis of entrance test. The entrance tests for BA and B.Com honours courses have already been held and for BSc honours entrance exam would be conducted on June 4. More than 13,000 applications have been received for admission to the BSc honours courses in PU. There are altogether 1206 seats, including 600 in Patna Science College, 350 in B N College and 256 in Magadh Mahila College

The number of forms received in the faculty of arts was around 11,000 even as there are 1650 seats (600 each in Patna College and B N College and 450 in Magadh Mahila College) in arts streams.

For admission to the B.Com honours course, about 5000 applications were received against 650 seats.

The centralized entrance test for admission to B.Com honours course in Vanijya Mahavidyalaya and Magadh Mahila College was held on May 28. Similarly, the centralized entrance test for admission to the BA honours course in Patna College, B N College and Magadh Mahila College was held on May 29.

The entrance test for the undergraduate courses running in self-financing mode at different colleges of PU will be held between June 1 and 19. These courses include Bachelor of library and information science, BCA (science), BCA (arts), BBA, Bachelor of Mass Communications, BA social work, BSc biotechnology, BSc environmental science, and functional English.

According to the schedule released by PU, the last date for admission to all the UG and PG courses is July 9, as per local media.

Pataliputra University on Sunday announced the first list of selected candidates for admission to Degree Part I courses. All its colleges have been directed to admit students from the list latest by June 10.

In Munger University, the last date for submission of applications for admission to undergraduate courses ended on May 31.The number of applications received online through university management information system (UMIS) crossed 45,000, almost double the number of applications received last year, said vice-chancellor R K Verma. These applicants would be admitted on merit in as many as 17 constituent and 18 affiliated colleges of the university in June itself, said the VC.
