Crippled water resources in India

Water pollution is one of the major issues across the world. People are facing various problems related to water such as water scarcity, contaminated groundwater, polluted rivers, overexploited water resources, dwindling supplies of freshwater etc.

Groundwater is declining faster than it is being replenished and there is a crippling dependence on monsoon rains to replenish most of India’s key water sources such as underground aquifers, lakes, rivers and reservoirs.

Still people around the world are wasting millions of gallons of drinking water in everyday usage due to this many people are not getting  enough water to drink. Not only human but animals are also dying out of water scarcity in several areas.

It is being predicted that within the next fifty years, the world population will increase by another 40 to 50% and to fulfil the growing demand industrialization will also increase resulting in over exploitation of water resources.

India will soon be formally categorized as a “water stressed” country. NitiAyog predicted water demand will be twice the present supply and India could lose up to 6 per cent of its GDP cities.

It has become very stringent to look after this issue so our government has come up with a Jal Shakti Ministry; by merging the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation and Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation which aims at providing clean water to people and work on all the water related issues.

Government is also taking an initiative to spread awareness regarding importance of water and the need to start water conservation programs in villages and cities but that is not enough because we citizens need to be alert and use the water intelligently by recycling it and by adopting methods which does not uses a lot of water in our daily life.
