Mother’s milk beats Baby Formula Any day!

Mother’s milk beats Baby Formula Any day!

Let’s celebrate the week of motherhood, WABA world breastfeeding week from 1st August to 7th August.

Mother’s milk is the most important nutrition for a newborn child.

World Health Organisation (that’s WHO) says, feeding breast milk of the mother within the first hour of birth and sustained for six months can increases the immunization and gives them a head start in the “race against malnutrition.”

Early and exclusive breastfeeding is the best action taken to improve a medical disorder and can save more child lives.

World Alliance for Breastfeeding Actions (WABA) is a global network of individuals and organizations dedicated to the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding worldwide.

It is celebrated worldwide to create awareness among people about the importance of breastfeeding by various campaigns. In India, there is still reluctance to breastfeed the baby withinin the first hour of its birth. Some middle class people think it is ‘not fashionable’ or ‘decent’ to nurse their babies in front of others.

According to government statistics, The states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar contribute to more than half of newborn and under-five deaths in India. In Bihar, 38 out of every 1,000 newborn babies die at birth as compared to 10 in Kerala. In Uttar Pradesh, 43 out of every 1,000 newborns do not live to see another day as compared to 17 in Tamil Nadu. Groups such as rural communities, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and minorities have a higher IMR and U5MR because families have little access to accurate and comprehensive information about healthy maternal, neonatal and child health practices, social services entitlements and how to use them.

They don’t know the importance of breastfeeding and other practices and lack   access to improved sanitation, drinking water quality and maternal and child nutrition.

In fact in urban areas also, people seem to ignore the importance of breastfeeding . Mothers are choosing formula feeding over breastfeeding because it is easy and fashionable.
