Indian heritage in Digital Space

The state of culture and Tourism minister Prahlad Singh Patel launched a month long exhibition on Indian Heritage in New Delhi.  The exhibition was launched in digital space and will stay online till February 15, 2020.

This exhibition is first of its kind in the country. The visitors of the exhibition will find architectural and conjectural reconstructions, recreations of socio-cultural traditions and life of Hampi and many more paintings and artifacts.

The technologies used to create the models of Heritages were developed by the (Indian heritage in Digital Space) IHDS programmme. IHDS is an initiative of Department of Science and Technology, that aims to create 3D Laser scan data, holographic projections, AR and 3D fabrication to showcase glory of heritages. It has so far created reconstruction of Hampi and other five Indian monuments namely Taj Mahal, Sun Temple, Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Ramachanda Temple and RaniKiVav Patan.

The exhibition also consists of special installation called “VIRAASAT”. Viraasat in Hindi means heritage. It provides mixed reality experience to visitors through 3D printing.

Through this, the exhibition will take heritage to wider population. It has overcome the barrier that heritage was restricted only to research. When the reach of significance of heritage increases, accountability of citizens increases. This will help to protect age old structures and monuments in a better way.
