GANGTOK, June 6 – Sikkim’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R Telang today directed all booth-level officers (BLOs) to carry out ‘a 100 percent house-to-house verification of voters in the State. He issued the specific direction to all BLOs at a meeting through video conferencing with all District Election Officers (DEOs) to review the progress on the activities of the summary revision of the electoral roll of the State.
The house-to-house verification by BLOs must be carried out at 100 percent to ensure inclusion of all voters including the differently abled, Telang said.
The CEO also directed the DEOs to conduct 100 per cent verification of the polling stations and rationalisation of the polling stations by July 31 as per the Election Commission of India’s schedule.
All DEOs must submit their respective District Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Action Plan and come up with innovative awareness programmes involving young voters, he said.
The college admission time may be utilised for generating awareness among the college-goers for electoral literacy, the CEO added. Sikkim has more than four lakh registered voters. – PTI
