A two-day orientation programme for students, admitted to different courses in the academic session 2021-22, concluded at St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology, Patna on Wednesday, September 29.
Orientation programmes, aimed at familiarizing the students to a new campus environment, its faculties and infrastructure, serve as a prologue to their learning process. It enables them to make essential connection with studies and form network among new people they come across.
The college offers undergraduate professional courses in business administration, business economics, commerce-professional, computer application as well as journalism and mass communication.
On the opening day of the event, Acting Rector, Fr Dr Martin Poras SJ asked the students to be regular in their studies and participate in various activities of the college to hone their skills and talent. He said the college would provide ample opportunities to students to learn, take part in extra-curricular activities and involve themselves in social work. “We have well-qualified faculty, who will prepare you to face all the challenges in future,” he said.
Fr Martin, while wishing the freshers a “fruitful stay” at SXCMT, said the college believed in inculcating social values, promoting personal excellence and caring for others.
Principal Father Dr T Nishaant SJ greeted the first-year students with Namaste in true Indian tradition and gave a power point presentation, tracing the history of the college and highlighting the salient features of Jesuit Education which “aims at making the learning meaningful and students responsible citizens.”
“At SXCMT, we promote inter-religious harmony. We also promote love, which is respect for teachers, freedom of others and all religions. Our efforts at SXCMT will be to provide purposeful and value-based education,” he added.
Father A. Sebastian SJ, Father Raj Kumar SJ, Father Alphonse Crasta SJ, Fr Sijo Cherian and Fr Sherry George also addressed the gathering. Later, the freshers were introduced to faculty, chairs of various committees, mentors of different clubs, administrative and maintenance staff.
Earlier, the opening day event started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Fr Martin Poras SJ, Fr T Nishaant SJ, Fr Sherry George, Mr Ashish Kumar and Ms Nirmala. This was followed by a prayer dance by Surbhi and group.
The college annual theme for the current academic year was virtually unveiled on the occasion by Rome-based Fr MK George SJ. The theme is ‘India’s Integral Freedom, God’s Greater Glory (देशकीसंपूर्णआज़ादी, ईश्वरकीमहत्तरमहिमा) .
On the second day, the freshers also took part in departmental activities where they were told about the rules and regulations of the college. In order to make students familiar with the campus, they were taken on a college tour with their respective mentors. The two-day function concluded with games, quiz and talent show that were organised for the freshers. The games, quiz and talent show were conducted by Mr Samar Reayz.
The event was hosted by Vikash Kumar Singh and HarshitaPratap Singh on the opening day, while Aditya Sagar hosted the concluding session. Kriti and Deepu Denis proposed the vote of thanks. The two-day orientation at St Xavier’s ended on a wonderful note.
