Listen to UN, stop desertification

Listen to UN, stop desertification

Sir,

It is no secret that agriculture is the backbone of economy of Bihar and approximately  77%  of its workforce is dependent on it.

Drought and Desertification has become a major issue in Bihar and has become  serious issue for the citizen of Bihar.

According to the state agriculture department’s data, more than 100,000 farmers in 14 districts, including Khagaria, Samastipur and Vaishali are affected from it. The people of these places have to face water issues, low quality of crops, low amount of crops etc.

The Chief Minister of Bihar introduced some policies like ‘Krishi Vaniki Samagam’ and  in that they talk about agriculture and according to ‘Hariyali Mission’ people have to plant trees at roadsides, government places etc.

So for the solution of this issue, many schemes have been announced, but those are not beneficial for the citizens of Bihar yet, and people are still facing many problems from desertification.

To tackle this issue in 1994 United Nations general Assembly declared 17th June as the The World Day to Combat Desertification which have its theme : ‘Let’s grow the future longer’ which reflects on 25 years of progress and also envisioning next 25 years.

United Nations Convention To Combat Desertification spread awareness among the people about the cause, problem and consequences of this issue. This convention discussed how they can deal with this issue and focused on sustainable development like to reduce poverty, food and water security, climate change etc. So, learning from this convention is very beneficial for the citizen of Bihar.
