Problems of Refugees

Problems of Refugees

Sir,

Refugees have become a big problem all over the world today. India is facing political turmoil trying to cope with the refugee influx from places like Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Refugee: a person or group of people who are forced to leave their country due to some war or violence in the country. The people who are affected in this way are people cannot return to their homes.

This refugee survived a massacre in Burma (Myanmar) and fled to Bangladesh

United Nations has dedicated a day for these people to honour their strength, and to increase public awareness and to support the refugees. The world refugee day is celebrated on 20th June. Across the world both the government and the non- government institutions are helping the refugees and looking out that they should be treated fairly all over the world.

The people who move from one place to another leaving their house, property, jobs etc to a new place know that it is is a very difficult thing to do. They have to come to new place with nothing in their hands. They have to adopt a whole new culture. There are various problems which they have to face while going to new place. They have find a place, job, and adjust to a foreign environment. They have to face race and religion based discrimination. If the refugees are of not the same religion or caste then the people may not accept them or will not consider them as part of their society. They were also not able to get jobs and make their living. These people are also homeless , they were living on the streets or abandoned buildings with almost nothing to eat and without basic things needed for day to day living.

The UN after seeing the whole scene of problems faced by the refugees created the 1951 refugee convention and 1967 protocol. This was accepted worldwide and they are the only global legal instruments which cover the rights and life of a refugee. This was done to protect the right of the refugees and to help them with all the possible things start up a new life in a new place. By this protocol and convention people who have to leave their motherlands are helped to settle down in new places.
