Xavier ‘Samagam’ for Parents

St. Xavier’s College and St. Xavier’s College of Management and Technology, Patna organized Sadbhavna Samagam on 17 December 2017. Sadbhavna Samagam is a Xavier College tradition wherein parents are invited for a get-together. The occasion is celebrated by festive singing of carols and exchange of season’s greetings. This was the third year in running when the Sadbhaawna Samaagam was celebrated.

The theme for this year’s Samagam was ‘Parent-Teacher Partnership’.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Joseph Pullikal, SJ, director of ‘Aashadeep Vocational Training Center, Muzafarpur, discussed with the parents the importance of spending quality time with young adults. He said that the root of all problems lie in not giving time to each-other. Patient listening, sympathetic understanding, and timely encouragement is all that is needed for a proper nurturing of child.

After listening to the keynote speaker, parents were grouped into small teams to discuss the issue further and share their experiences. Teaching faculty of the Colleges conducted a mini-workshop on parent-teacher partnership in bringing up children. The discussion emphasized upon the importance of this shared responsibility.
Fr. (Dr.) T. Nishaant, SJ, the Principal of the Colleges, informed the parents about the efforts that St. Xavier’s Colleges are making towards the holistic development of its students.
Earlier in the day, the programme started with Lighting of the ceremonial lamp with the torch being carried from the College Prayer room by the Vice-principal, Fr. (Dr.) Martin Poras, SJ. Prayer song was sung with much fervour by a group of first year students led by Keerti of B.Com. (Professional).

The AICUF Carol Group sung “Sitaara Jhilmil-jhilmil Chamakta” with gusto and set the mood for Christmas celebrations.
A short skit, based on the theme of the Samaagam, was performed by the Xavier Theatre Group. The hard hitting skit was directed by Prof. Ajay Kumar. The skit portrayed the tragic consequence of not listening to the children. It also brought out the triumphant victory that the students can achieve with just a little bit of attention, care, and love.

The programme was conceived and executed by the faculty team comprising Profs. Animesh Karn, Piyush Verma, and Arohi Anand. The Samaagam was ably anchored by Prof. Deepika Tiwari and the vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Piyush Ranjan Sahay
