Gandhi’s ‘vision’ celebrated at Jesuit College

PATNA: “Gandhi’s India” – the reference is to the ‘Mahatma’ and not ‘The Family’ – was the theme of the evening as St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology (SXCMT) celebrated its annual day zest here on Sunday, March1, 2020.

At the annual occasion of celebration, felicitation, and festivity, students put up a variety show and received honour for their curricular and co-curricular achievements.

Ranjan Kumar was named the student of the year.

After the welcome address by Dr Tomy Nishaant SJ, the Xavier Theatre Club presented a dance-drama on ‘India of Gandhi’s dream.

The college choir then showcased the singing talent of students.

The members of Xavier Dance Crew, dressed in bright colourful costumes, danced to a medley of classic and patriotic numbers.

This was followed by a mime that sought to depict the current situation prevailing in the country.

The principal presented the college’s annual report on the occasion highlighting activities undertaken in the institution in the past year. The report mentioned achievements of the students, faculty and acknowledged the support of prominent people.

In their speech, the chief guest, guest of honour and the special guest complimented the students and lauded the vision of the management and hard work of their mentors.

The chief guest, guest of honour and the special guests also distributed prizes and certificates to the student of the year, students with potential for excellence and students with potential for inspiration.

Earlier, the ceremonial lamp by chief guest, Mr Chanchal Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Bihar Chief Minister, guest of honour, Dr Dhirendra Kumar, General Manager, NABARD, special guest Sr Mary Jessy, SND, Principal, Notre Dame Academy, SXCMT Rector Fr Joseph Thadavanal SJ, principal, Fr T Nishaant, SJ, vice principal Fr Martin Poras SJ, Mr Alex Natal and a parents representative. The chanting of Gayatri Mantra during the lamp lighting and a devotional dance marked a solemn start to performances, based on the college annual theme: Gandiji’s India: Together Towards well-being of all (गांधीजी का भारत : सबका सम्मान, सबका कल्याण).

College rector Fr Joseph Thadavanal, SJ, proposed a vote of thanks.

The programme concluded with a grand finale, comprising a scintillating dance performance and breathtaking formations, which left the audience spellbound.

Raj Ratan, Rajvi Prabhakar, Krishna Ravi Shankar and Ojaswini Sharma anchored the event.
