‘Staff day’ held in Jesuit College

“The destiny of India is being shaped in the classrooms” Prof. Abhishek Anand mentioned this line from the Kothari commission while sharing his thoughts on the occasion of staff day at the Jesuit run St. Xavier’s College of Management and Technology (SXCMT), Patna. He said “While there will undoubtedly be many battles left before the war is ultimately won, we have many more miles to go before we sleep” expressing his gratitude for being in the teaching profession.

As per the tradition, on the 5th of September, SXCMT Student council organized a celebration in honour of the staff of the college.

“Unlike other educational institutions, Jesuit education believes in giving equal respect to each and every working body of the college whether it’s a professor, management staff or a maintenance staff.”  The principal of the college Rev. Dr. Martin Poras SJ said while sharing his thoughts with students.

He added “for many of the first year students even the word staff day may seem new as it is something which is not found in all educational institutions. Everybody working inside this college is connected with providing knowledge to the students in different circumstances whether inside the classroom or outside hence everyone deserves the equal amount of respect”.

As Dhiraj, a first year student in the MassCom Department said in his speech on the occasion: the role of the maintenance staff, who enter the college at an hour that the students may still be in their beds, contribute significantly to the environment of learning in the Jesuit institution: the clean classrooms, the well maintained gardens, the orderly parking spaces. “In true Xaverian spirit, we are grateful to all who contribute to our education.”

The celebration started with the grand entry of the Professors, administrative and maintenance staff inside the Kalaam auditorium, with march past and salute to them by the Student council as a sign to acknowledge their efforts and hard work towards the college and students.

The staff were presented roses as a token of love from the students. This was followed by ceremonial lamp lighting by Rector Fr. Joseph Sebastian SJ, Principal Rev. Dr. Martin Poras SJ, Vice Principal Rev. Dr. Sushil Bilung SJ, Asst. Prof. Priya Manish Kumar and Maintenance Staff Ms. Phulgensia Soren.

Riddhi, Sanghamitra Raje Singh and Sam Matthew wished for the well-being of the all; in their prayers dedicated to the staffs which was followed by a prayer dance by the Xavier Dance Club. Students had put so much effort in making this day more delightful and special for the staffs which was clearly visible in the speeches delivered by Mriganko Ghosh and Anujya. Apart from this, one student from each department delivered a speech for their department Professors.

The college also made this day more special by releasing new college magazine Xaverian Waves, for which Father Principal thanked the editorial board members Mr. Frank Krishner, Rev Dr. Sushil Bilung SJ, Mr. Tapeshwar Prasad.

The GST (Guess the Staff & Teacher) quiz by the Xavier Quiz Club was the energy recharge for the staff as well as the students. The celebration went on with a skit presented by Xavier Theatre Club and a performance by Xavier Dance Club.

The musical Grand Finale was presented by the Xavier Dhwani Club and the student council members. The event was hosted by Aditya and Varsha and Riddhi Arya proposed the Vote of Thanks.
