Vegan Foodies, a New Trend?

Vegan Foodies, a New Trend?

Point and Counterpoint: Vegan Food

[The comments in brackets are by Boy Shakira, the serious stuff is written by Newsnet Intern Seema Kumari]

Food is the basic need of everybody. Some are vegetarian, some are hard-core meat lovers and there are some  turning towards vegan food.

(Vegan Food?, Um… like Vegetarian hard-core man!)

Vegan food is all about vegetable and plants based food, meat and animal –derived foods like milk, ghee and cheese are not used and also the processed and canned food are restricted.

(Like being a Vegan means you don’t even look at rasogollas, mishti doi, and you scream every time you see an ad for Amul butter!)

Vegan foods are becoming a trend, with strong celebrity following. People are switching over to the vegan foods. It’s becoming unexpectedly popular and innovative chefs are reworking their menus to whip up dishes that are both healthy and high on taste.

(Vegan Foodies? Really?)vegan

There are a lot of restaurants which are popular for their vegan food like Cafe Basiico’s in Mumbai, Four Points in Mumbai, Bodega Cantina Y-Bar in Calcutta, etc.

Vegan foods are not restricted to a few ingredients but people get a lot of options to choose with anything from pizzas to lemon tarts at these restaurants. They are creatively combining taste with health.

(Honestly? Pizzas without EXTRA cheese? I mean , seriously? No Dal Makhani? )

The vegans are well known because, some people realise about the animal suffering, and growing awareness about the environment too is turning young urban Indians to veganism. Beside that there are many who are turning vegan for health reasons, many believe that a vegan diet can help to reverse diabetes and heart problems.

(Gotcha! This ‘vegan’ stuff is just a creative way for diabetics to pretend they are ‘fashionable!)

Soon the vegan food will become a way of life.

(Not in this century, I hope. Do you know vegans don’t wear leather, don’t eat honey … it’s, um..Wahabi vegetarianism)

I read this article and found it brilliantly conceptualise about a vegan trend but the first thing which evolved into my mind was that how a vegan must be surviving with his environment where half of the things( basically daily consuming food items) are made of either diary product or have used animal’s fats. They must be very careful and picky in restaurants or searching a long list of ingredients in any new food items they have ordered.:D

I liked this stuff and specially the bracket ones, they are so hilarious. And specially the lastline in brackets, they have a deeper meaning too. I have also seen many people saying that they love vegan foods and to be honest, that time I thought this vegan food must be in trend. ?
