The Ninth South Asia Economic Summit will be held in Dhaka next month with the theme ‘Reimagining South Asia in 2030’.
Private think-thank Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) will organize the regional event on Oct 15-16. The venue of the summit is yet to be disclosed.
A four-member CPD delegation, led by its Chairman Rehman Sobhan, called on Bangladesh President Md Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban and informed him about the upcoming event, Press Secretary to the President Joynal Abedin told reporters.
He said the CPD has invited the president to be the chief guest at the inaugural session of the summit.
Representatives from different South Asian countries, international agencies and development partners are expected to participate in the two-day event. Policy makers, economists and business leaders from Bangladesh will also participate in the summit, according to CPD delegation.
Abedin said the summit’s main aim was to formulate various recommendations to attain the Sustainable Development Goals.
Welcoming the initiative, President Hamid expressed hope that the outcome of the summit would play important role in development of Bangladesh and other South Asian countries as well as achieving SDGs.
