Sir,
The latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on has placed Bihar in the eleventh position among the states and Union Territories in terms of crime against women and the state was at eighth position in 2014.
According to the data, in 2015, there were 13,891 cases of crime against women reported to police in Bihar and in 2014, it was only 15,383 cases. However, Bihar came second in the category of women kidnapping cases which was 4,444 in 2015 while Uttar Pradesh topped with 8,290 cases as such. Similarly, Bihar came second after Uttar Pradesh in dowry deaths and cases. According to NCRB data, 1,154 dowry deaths cases were filed to Bihar police in 2015, whereas, in Uttar Pradesh it was 2,335.
It can be noted that such cases like sexual harassment of woman at workplace and in public transport was not reported to Bihar police in 2015. But most cases of rape incidents were reported which was 1,041 in number in 2015 whereas, it was 1,127 in 2014. In some of the rape cases, offenders committed the crime making a false promise of marriage to the victims after the incident.
Everyone is questioning the inaction of the State Government. Are they taking any strict actions against these crimes? Why only women have to live in fear every time and every second? So long as the numerous schemes introduced by the Government for women are not implemented properly, it is highly unlikely that the situation of women in the state would see any improvement in the near future.
Yours Truly,
