As expected, Chief Nitish Kumar went ahead with announcing Bihar’s ‘New Prohibition Law’ in honour of Mahatma Gandhi.
The Chief minister claimed that his total prohibition laws have laid a new social transformation in the state, and has been specially beneficial to the women, and the families in rural areas. He claimed that his partial prohibition policy was not welcomed by the ‘people’ and that prompted him to go for total prohibition on the 5th of April 2016.
He also claimed that he was in no way defying the ruling of the High Court, because the court had rescinded the ‘old law’ whereas once the ‘New law has come into effect, the ‘old law’ stands null and void. Therefore the opinion of the Honourable high court doesn’t hold water.
Kumar also reiterated his closed fist stand against alcohol consumption, and vowed to fight detractors, up to the Supreme Court. He claimed that all the legislators in his government were solidly behind this move.
He called this new imposition his ‘true tribute’ to the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, and challenged those who called his stance ‘draconian’ and ‘Taliban -like’.
Exercise in futility. He should bother about other things.
Thumbs down for this act!
