Social Media and the Impact on the family was the focus of this year’s Annual Regional Assembly of Signis Bijhan.  Signis or the ‘Sign of Fire’ is the name of the social communication association of the Catholic Church, a body of audio-visual and new media professionals. Thirteen representatives from Bihar and Jharkhand are spending two days in Buxar to deliberate on the effects and impact of social media on families and youth in their respective regions.

Rev Raymond Cherubim SJ  shared his experiences and assessment on how social media impacts families and people of all ages in various ways.  Catholic Media professionals from Bihar and Jharkhand shared their experiences and insights. Among them were TV film director Victor Francis, Cameraperson Manoj K Das, folk communication veteran Sadhu Shilanand SJ, Media trainer and producer Fr Alex Tirkey.

Earlier, the inaugural address delivered by Bishop Sebastian Kallupura of Buxar, who spoke of the challenges that ethical  communicators face in this increasingly globalized and commercial world.  The local host for the Regional assembly is Fr Anand Kumar. The  meeting continues tomorrow.
