Transgender people and rights

Transgender people and rights

Sir,

Patna Women’s College  organized a Christmas Milan at the pre Christmas bash for the transgender communities where nearly 100 transgender friends gathered. Coming fully dressed up ,they mesmerized the crowd with their song and dance . At the function, Mx Reshma Prasad came in front and shared her experience how the society draws a curtain on their rights, offends them and so they remain unprotected.

The cities ‘wrestling tradition’ with the transgender sensitivities has brought me here  In the world that almost everyone is talking about freedoms and rights , there are 70 million transgender people living without their identities ,harassed ,bullied ,face serious life threatening discriminations ,physically as well as sexually assaulted and disrespected .People do not recognize their gender and refuse to call them by the correct pronoun .Moreover, they don’t enjoy the same basic rights as others like health care and protection at workplaces.

Surely, transgender persons are strong enough to challenge societies sexual categories. In India ,they are considered a taboo but on the other end are called upon for blessings during occasions .Wow!

My hope is that we will find ways to curb this. Such people should be treated like humans with valid feeling and human rights .They are always in need of help in both funding and support .Thus , transgenders  should be respected rather than criticized every time.

Yours Truly,

A student, Dept of CEMS, Patna Women’s College

Transgender are not made, they are the gift of god. Why to discriminate them as they are culprit or done some heinous crime. The are also the part of our society and have equal rights as everyone had. Day by day they are also doing well in studies, social work and many other field, just support is required for their growth and confidence to do well and live happily in this society.
