Will John Lenin’s dream blossom on GFD?

Will John Lenin’s dream blossom on GFD?

‘Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can. No need for greed or hunger. A brotherhood of man. Imagine all the people sharing all the world.’ These are the lines from a song of John Lenin but actually if we see it not only  as a dream but also as a goal for  the entire world  to achieve.

The beginning of the year, 1st January, is an international day of peace and sharing. Global Family Day! It aims at uniting and spreading peace by considering and promoting the idea- Earth is a one Global Family so as to make world a better place to live for everyone.

On this day people pledge non-violence, and spread a message of  peacjanuary-1-global-family-daye and sharing by ringing a bell or beating a drum in the hope of making society and the world as united as a family.

Global Family Day, grew out of the United Nations millennium celebration. About 140 nations agreed to the November 1997 declaration of the U.N General Assembly. In November 1999, the U.N issued an invitation for world participants.

Families gather each first day of the year to welcome the New Year. people share meals and exchange gifts with their family members and relatives. People also serve meals especially with the needy and pledges to non-violence. People donate to various humanitarian relief organizations or NGOs. Various organizations distribute literature in the form of leaflets, brochures, posters etc. to unite, inform, motivate, and connect people, institutions, governments of the world and through the celebration of this day they spread the message of peace and sharing.

So, this day is very important as it is a step towards uniting the whole world as one. It is a dream that someday there will be no hue and cry, all will understand the pain of the others, there will be no enemy and the world will live in peace.

The rise of the far right, people like Donald Trump in the US and Narendra Modi in India, as well as the rogue states of ISIS and Pakistan are the major hurdles in achieving a global family type harmony. But we are the optimists and must not lose hope.

‘Imagine’ dreams of an Utopian, socialist society where every one is lovey dovey and flowers grow in winter. That’s not gonna happen. But the spirit of the song says that we should be less selfish, more giving and make the world a better place. Global Family Day is about looking at the whole world as one family . ‘Kutumbh vasudevan’ and all that jazz.
