Bettiah: Rivers have taken a menacing form and are flowing above the danger mark level in Pandai, Harboda, Maniyari in Narktiyaganj, of Champaran District. Roads in all directions leading to Naraktiyaganj sub-divison headquarters are underwater and communication has been severely affected. The flood waters are at two to six feet high at various places in Betiah, Ramnagar, Gaunaha and Sahodra roadways.
Flood waters have entered the sugar factory at Narkatiaganj, disrupting production and causing panic among the supervisors, staff and workers. In the town people are wading through water three to five feet deep.
Villages under Hardi Teda, Bhasurari, Dhumnagar, Amalwa Belwa, Bajda, Bhitiharwa including many more panchayats are in the most serious situation. It has become very difficult to be in contact with people.
The 2.5 kilometre distance between the Harboda and Pandai rivers has ben flooded, so the area has now turned into a vast lake. People in Narkatiaganj are struggling for refuge. They were moving to the hospitals, offices along with block office and main markets to look for shelter.
The Harboda River is in a dreadful form. People are facing situation because of continuous rain over the plast few days. Many of the people are perched upon the roofs of their houses.
The destruction due to flood has been estimated at crores of rupees. Roads connecting to the headquarters still have water flowing at 2-4 feet level. It is believed that this flood has broken the records of the flood in 1986. The flood water has raised around 2 feet even at Naraktiya junction. It has also risen above the tracks and compound. The Hanuman temple along with the markets in Bhikhnathori in Pandai has gone under water. Dohram River has washed away many houses in Van Bairiya. A number houses has been damaged in Malahi, Pipra and Chaturbhujwa under Shikarpur Thana. People are clamouring for relief.
