Patna : It is good news for the Dolphin lovers; the Patna University will soon have the Ganga Dolphin Research Centre.
The proposal for the Research Center will be put forward at the syndicate, said a senior university official.
The chief minister Nitish Kumar has asked the PU administration to provide land for the research center otherwise it will be shifted to Bhagalpur.
According to the sources the center will be set up on the PU campus on the banks of river Ganga. PU is looking for the land; it includes a vast stretch at Golakpur which is trespass by residents.
Rash Bihari Prasad Singh university vice-chancellor said: We are serious in setting up the Dolphin Research Centre on the university campus, as per local newspaper.
Ganga dolphins are an endangered species and their decline has been primarily due to poaching.
R.K. Sinha, former teacher of Patna University took up the research work and has won the international recognition. Sinha is tipped to be the first director of Dolphin Research Center.
