Bihar School Examination board (BSEB) will have the admission process of first-year undergraduate courses at 11 universities, including Patliputra University.
Patliputra University carved out of Magadh University (MU) and headquartered in Patna in March this year. 20 colleges that were the part of Magadh University will now function under Patliputra University
Pro- vice chancellor of Patliputra University Mr Girish Chaudhary stated that based on the series of meeting with officials of Magadh University and chancellor’s office directives it is decided that students of Patliputra University, studying undergraduate courses at colleges in second and third year will remain in Magadh University (MU).
The decision has been taken as these students’ registrations were done by Magadh University (MU) and they had appeared in examinations for the first and second years conducted by Magadh University (MU), added Mr Chaudhary.
The chancellor’s office is yet to decide for the students who are in first-year undergraduate courses as their examinations are yet to be held.
The board has inquired from all the 11 universities, including the newly carved Patliputra University, to provide details about the list of colleges under Patliputra University, the courses being run at these colleges, student enrolled and the fee structure of the courses. The board will carry out admission on the basis of marks.
The students are happy with the decision as they were confused after the bifurcation of Magadh University. They did not know whether they will land up in Magadh University or Patliputra University. The decision of retaining the old students with Magadh university is being welcomed by them.
If the old students were made to go with Patliputra University, the degree which they will get after completion of their undergraduate courses would have names of both Magadh University and Patliputra University also the degree certificates having name of two universities would have created problems for them especially at the time of interviews for jobs or for higher studies.
The new university will have colleges under Patna and Nalanda districts which were earlier with MU. Some of the colleges which will be under Patliputra University are AN College, College of Commerce, Arts and Science, JD Women’s College, Arvind Mahila College and others.
