Traditional is always a choice when it comes to festivals, kurta-pyjama, Banarasi saris and kahdi apparels are the preferred ones by all. If you are a handloom admirer you can get your choice from the handloom exposition at Gandhi Maidan.
It’s a week-long exposition that will continue till March 20. People are rushing to the expo in large number to shop for Holi dresses. The traditional kurta-pyjama is among the best-selling items. Besides, khadi materials and Banarasi saris are also in demand.
Traders from all over Bihar as well as from neighbouring states have put up their stalls. Most of the products are available at reasonable rates.
RT Sharma, one of the organisers, said, “The entry is free so that more number of people may visit the fair. Most of the products are handmade by local artists. I hope they will get the result of their hard work. People can directly visit the fair from gate no 7 at Gandhi Maidan.”
Iqbal, a trader from Bhagalpur, said, “Due to the festival time and wedding season the crowd has increased. People are mostly buying apparels, handmade carpets and decorative items. Since it is onset of summer, therefore cotton shirts, suit and dupattas and cotton kurtis are in big demand.”
Besides apparels, there are also cosmetics and accessories for ladies. Young college girls have also made it their shopping destination before the festival. Stalls of Bihari food items are also present.
Neha Kumari, a college student, said, “Dupattas available at the fair looked very attractive and are in varieties. It was in my budget, so I bought one”. Another student, Kavita Jha said, “I have bought cotton kurti. We don’t find good kurtis in the markets at such a reasonable price. Moreover, my friends and I enjoyed litti-chokha and pani puri at the food stalls.”
