Pedestrians face difficulties in India

Pedestrians face difficulties in India

Sir

We often talk about the difficulties that common people face on footpath but it is one of the major issues.

Walking on the footpath is very difficult. There is very minimal space for common people to walk on the road and this is one of the major concerns of every state Also, on every single road there are so many small road side shops that has annexed the street illegally making it difficult for people to commute day in and day out. It also creates congestion for vehicle passing through the street.

As per one of the DNA report , every year more than 2000 people lose their lives because of the congestion created by these street vendors. Over the last decade the incidents of accidental death is showing an increasing trend with an increase of 44.2%. This figure shows that on an average at every five minutes one person dies in India because of road accidents.

According to Central road research institute (CRRI), 50% of footpath vendor in Delhi has illegally annexed the road sideways and has started their business at the cost of the safety of the commuter.

Even few days ago, the video of a senior citizen in Bangalore went viral who was seen deterring a bike rider trying to drive over the pedestrian crossing breaking the traffic rules. The effort made by this old man sets an example for today’s youth who should raise their voices against these issues.

The worst part is that the administration also does not take steps against them instead they take bribes and free vegetables and fruits from them.

As per the findings of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) ,a total of Rs. 1000 crore  has been extorted by police in Mumbai and Rs. 600 crore in Delhi which shows how casually the government has taken this issue and how they are involved it.

This problem can be resolved by government if they provide a particular place for them to set as market in every area and will also have to take stringent measures to control the overflowing population settled across the street.

Yours truly
