Education Minister of Bihar Shri Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma launched the first career portal for the students of Bihar “www.biharcareerportal.com” on 9 August at a programme jointly organized by Bihar Education Project Council and UNICEF at the Chanakya hotel, Patna.. The portal has been developed with technical support from UNICEF.
The career portal is expected to help secondary and senior secondary students take “informed decisions” about their academic and professional pursuits.
It will enable the students to choose their career path matching with their aspirations, interest, inclination and aptitude, the portal would reduce dropouts at various stages in schools and improve retention in jobs, according to Unicef.
This portal is easily accessible for the student and will be beneficial for them at the time of examination and for career guidance.
How to log on the portal
The registration number of students allotted to them by Bihar Board will be used as login id/user id while 123456 is a common password for every user. The user can change their password after first login. Students can contact teacher if they face any problem related to login on the portal.
The teachers will be trained about using the portal and they will organize workshop in their respective schools for students.
This portal is accessible in the language Hindi and as well as English.
In the event, Ayush Bansal, the designer of the portal described the portal in detail and showed how to use it. He said that the portal carries information of about 460 professional careers, 955 scholarships, and 6400 institutions of higher education. He further added that in our country there are about 1050 entrance examinations conducted but as a student it is not possible to keep track of all the examination dates and timings.
Therefore this portal is also lists all the entrance examinations detail which will help the student to keep the track of all the examinations. He stated that this portal also carry the information of good educational institutions all over the world.
Bihar Education Minister K.N Prasad appreciated the effort and said the portal is a good initiative for the students especially of Bihar and will help them to choose the career of their choice.
Mr Asadur Rahman, State Representative of UNICEF told that this portal will help the 6,312 government school of 37,34,000 students in Bihar especially the students of standard IX and above. He further added that this portal would help students expand their perspective by showing different careers and their respective scopes.
As per census of 2011, Bihar with the 22% population in the age group of 10-19 years and the leading state in term of adolescence population in India. This young adult make up the Bihar’s largest potential work force.
The portal has been already customized and contextualized for the students of Bihar and the career content has been translated in Hindi language. Students can update their profile. Portal also has information that after doing a particular course which are the organizations where the candidate can get a job and the expected salary.
This portal is UNICEF’S good way to approach education, empowerment, skilling and employability in Bihar.
UNICEF is supporting in the development of Career Guidance Portal as part of the programme for adolescent’s empowerment through education, in 10 states (Bihar, Madhya Pradesh-MP, Uttar Pradesh-UP, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana) of India using technology and building capacity of the states
