Patna, Bihar: The students of St. Xavier’s College of Management and Technology, enthusiastically manifested their creativity and love to capture moments, nature and ideas during a virtual display of photographs on Thursday, August 19, 2021.
The exhibition was organised by the department of Mass Communication, and about 50 photographs by 11 students were displayed on a large smart board. The exhibition was held online amid social distancing measures due to Covid 19.
The coordinator of Mass Communication department, Mr Frank Krishner, said that the photographs were taken by DSLR camera and smartphones by second and fourth semester students.
Photographs of insects and animals shot by Sonal Kohli was much appreciated.
Darkscapes by Gautam Kumar, Street Photography by Nishant Mishra and Anjali Anand ( BMC 4th semester students ), and the work of second semester students Janvi, Vivek and Vikash also drew eyes and received praise.
The themes on which students took photographs were – nature and wildlife, macro photography and street photography.
Appreciating the efforts of the BMC department, Fr T Nishaant SJ urged the students to continue with their passion of photography, and celebrate the art of taking photographs.
World Photo Day originated from the invention of the Daguerreotype, a photographic process developed by Frenchmen Louis Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1837. On January 9, 1839, the French Academy of Sciences announced the Daguerreotype process. On August 19, the French government purchased the patent and announced the invention as a gift “free to the world”.
On August 19, 2010 World Photo Day hosted its first global online gallery.
