PATNA: St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology (SXCMT), Patna, on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, marked the start of the new academic year with an orientation session for third year students.
The college, earlier, completed the internal assessment of students by organizing online examinations, comprising multiple choice questions, presentations and viva voce.
Welcoming the students to the new academic year, Acting Rector, Fr Martin Poras SJ, said the education sector had been affected by the situation arising out of Covid-19 pandemic. “The pandemic has taken its toll physically, mentally and financially. Imparting quality education under these circumstances has been a difficult task,” he said. The Acting Rector, however, assured the students “to do everything possible to support your academic quest.”
SXCMT Principal, Fr T Nishaant SJ, said despite the pandemic-induced lockdown last year, the college had many achievements to count. “The number of webinars organized by different departments is praiseworthy. We started the last academic year two months late. But the college IT Cell and the examination department were able to ensure timely completion of syllabus and smooth conduct of internal assessment,” he said.
Explaining the values of Jesuit education system, Fr Nishaant said they prepared students to be compassionate as they take the next step in their life journey as men and women for others.
The Principal also complimented the volunteers of Youth for Free India and National Service Scheme for undertaking various humanitarian work.
Placement officer Samar Reyaz said the college was continuously monitoring the employment opportunities in various domains and arrange campus interviews for eligible students. The efforts of the placement cell would pave way for the final year students to tread in the right path in their career, he added.
Later, assistant professor Farhan Khalid conducted an inter-department quiz on rules and regulations of the college as well as on the six ‘Cs’—compassion, commitment, collaboration, conscience, creativity and competence—of the Jesuit education system.
The programme started with a soulful prayer by Dean Academics, Dr Mala Kumari Upadhyay. The event was anchored by Simran and Soumya Evita Lepcha proposed a vote of thanks.
