Bihar Airport Police stub Bathroom Smoker

Patna: We know Bathroom singers can be annoying and Bathroom smokers even more so, but this 25 year old Bihari bathroom smoker found out that lighting up in the loo can get you to the lock-up. Or as they say, a puff in the loo may and you in sing-sing!

The guy created panic in a service flight in mid-air when he smoked a cigarette in the lavatory of the aircraft travelling from Delhi to Patna on Tuesday. The passenger, Mohammad Nazir Alam (25), who works in Saudi Arabia, was  arrested by the police when the aircraft touched down at Patna airport.

Alam had two lighters, two cigarette packs and two screwdrivers on him. Now, how he managed that feat, and boarded the plane in the first place is a mystery. Airport staff will tell you that  no passengers are allowed to carry inflammable items in their cabin luggage, and scanners are used to identify such prohibited items. “We are also surprised how he managed to board the flight with inflammables,” said a ‘source’ reportedly told the media.

Airport CISF commandant Dharmaveer Yadav said when the passenger smoked the cigarette mid-flight, the smoke detectors of the aircraft tripped. So when Alam emerged from the bathroom, with nicotine –stained fingers, so to speak,  the crew took him into custody.

“The crew handed over the passenger to the CISF security personnel as soon as the aircraft landed at the Jayprakash Narayan International Airport in the city,” Yadav said, adding that the passenger was later taken to Airport police station for interrogation.

Airport police station SHO Dhananjay Kumar said Alam admitted to have smoked a cigarette inside the lavatory. Alam is a native of Santpur village under Nautan police station in West Champaran district.
