One slip : Bihari boy Pulped to death in Paper Mill

He fell on to a conveyor belt, and in seconds was turned into pulp, his shrieks of terror drowned by heavy machinery. This is no horror film, but what happened to a nineteen year old boy just yesterday.

Erode, Tamil Nadu:  a young man from Bihar  was working along a conveyor belt in a private paper mill. He made just one slip that proved fatal. He was turned into pulp after he accidentally fell into a pulp making machine. This happened at a paper mill near Bhavani Sagar in the district.

Barring a small bone and a few pieces of the T-shirt that he wore, his entire body had turned into pulp.

One of his mates told the police that Vicky Kumar fell into the conveyor belt leading to the pulp making machine and was crushed to death. When his co-worker, also from Bihar, raised an alarm the machine was stopped immediately. However, he was crushed totally, said police.

Some among the over 20 other workers, all from Bihar, were said to have identified the shredded parts of the T-shirt worn by the victim, Vicky Kumar. The police had been told by the co-workers that the Vicky was 19 years old.  The management of the paper mill said he was aged 21.

“We are unable to confirm the age since the boy has no relatives here and the co-workers were from different parts of Bihar who had become familiar with one another only at the work spot,” said Ravi, Inspector of Bhavani Sagar Police Station.

Whether the boy’s age is 19 or 21 but the matter is he is no more because of carelessness. Working in a factory or a mill or surrounded by heavy machines, we need to be careful and alert to overcome such incidents.

In this age of mechanization, human beings have turned into robots. With the safety measures hardly paid attention to,such tragedies are bound to recur. Its ironical that human life is not even worth the paper.
