In the memory of India’s prominent poet, essayist, literary critic and political critic, the Pragatisheel Lekhak Sangh of Bihar organised a Muktibodh Janmashatabdi Samaroh at Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh.
Senior Journalists, poets and writers of Bihar came to speak on how Muktibodh is relevant in today’s scenario.
Gajanan Madhav Muktibodh lived from 1917-1964. It is 100 years after his birth and his fantasies are realities today.
Muktibodh had strong viewpoints on modernism, socialism and communalism.
In one of his works he said that in every locality of India there exists an America. He gave this statement when America became the most powerful country of this world and Indians appeared to be influenced by American lifestyle. Now, if we talk about today’s India, we are very much influenced by America and are moving towards globalisation. We truly believe that everything which is American is desirable, and that today’s society aims to develop like America.
“Andhere mein’ is one of his best known long poems in which he wrote that in the dark he sees a parade coming, The parade consists of intellectuals, writers, journalists, soldiers, businessmen, elite class, and politicians which signifies that they together are planning to rule over the general public. Muktibodh’s creations are the analysis of our way of living. If we go deep down in his creations we see that he is not in the past world but he has a future vision. Muktibodh warned the country long before about the challenges that general public is facing now”, said Avadesh Preet, a writer and sub editor in ‘Hindustan’.
To express his viewpoints he used fantasies in his creations and his fantasies are reality now. He recognized the developing problems for the middle class people and wanted them to have a semantic democraict consciousness. The middle class people are oppressed. They are the most efficient and educated group in society but are unaware of the powers and have become cowardly.
Muktibodh was a progressive writer. Decades back when he warned the public about today’s scenario, he was called a rebel and we are the witness that the rebel was a guiding light.
