Independence at SXCMT: Integrated Mission to make India Better

The students, who are the future of the country, should be faithful to the fundamental principles of equality, fraternity, and harmony in diversity as enshrined by the Constitution. These were the words expressed by former IPS officer and recipient of the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service Rajyabardhan Sharma, who hoisted the national flag at Bihar’s premier Jesuit Institution on Independence Day.

St Xavier’s College of Management & Technology, Patna celebrated the 76th Independence Day. The flag hoisting was done at Kalaam auditorium on 15th August when India completed 75 years of independence.

The Xavier Matching band formed the Guard of Honour for the dignitaries, leading them to the Kalaam Auditorium. Chief guest Mr. Rajyabardhan Sharma hoisted the national flag in the presence of the acting principal and vice principal of the college Fr. Dr. Sushil Bilung SJ, Rector Fr. Joseph Sebastian SJ, the staff members and students of the college.

“You Young people have the real responsibility of making India a complete integrated mission.”  Mr. Rajyabardhan Sharma said to the students.

He motivated them towards an integrated mission to make India better, highlighting the fact that a hard won freedom was the result of all freedom fighters: tyhose who followed non-violence as well as those who opted for affirmative action.

Mr. Rajyabardhan Sharma is a former Indian Police Service Officer of the 1980 batch and served Bihar in various capacities. As a Deputy Inspector General of Police, he served in the Railways, Human Rights, and Ranchi Range. He was awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1997 and President Medal for Distinguished Service in 2007. Currently, with his friends, he helps students to prepare for state civil services interviews.

The flag hoisting was followed by cultural programmes where the students presented a variety of cultural programmes to mark the occasion. The Xavier Dhwani Club presented a group song; Xavier Theatre club in a skit, highlighted the role of Subhash Chandra Bose in the Independence struggle. The Xavier Dance club danced to the strains of the national song Vande Mataram.

Anushka and Neeraj handled the anchoring of the programme.

The event concluded with fraternal greetings, bonhomie among staff and students and distribution of sweets.
