There is a common phrase ‘Health is Wealth’. Health is the first priority of one’s life. It is a subject of major importance. It needs awareness and concern.
Catering this subject in 1948 the WHO (World Health Organization) held the first world health day. The Assembly decided to celebrate 7 April of each year as the World Health Day.
It is celebrated worldwide by the government; non-government organizations including various health organizations and target health issues through several programes like Debates on the related topics, art exhibitions, essay writing, competitions at several places like schools, colleges and other crowd places. A particular theme is chosen to run the celebration and take care of the health for whole year.
It is also celebrated to mark the establishment of the World health Organization as well as draw the attention of people towards the major health issues in the world.
Participated organizations highlight their activities and supports through the media reports by means of press releases, news and etc. Health authorities from different country take part in the celebration with their pledges in order to support on the health issues worldwide.
Global Polio Eradication was also one of the special themes of the year 1995 of world health day. From then, most of the countries have become free of this fatal disease whereas in other parts of the world its awareness level has increased.
This year in 2018 the theme is ‘Universal health coverage: everyone, everywhere’.
