Slipper throwing is really getting out of hand. True story from Karnataka State: A person accused of illegal ganja transport threw a slipper at the judge who cancelled his bail ! This happened at the district court in Bidar on Monday.
The accused , a fellow called Mohammad Raseeoddin was charged by the district police under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. He hefted his slipper at Hanchate Sanjiv Kumar, principal district and sessions judge, while the court was in session. The slipper missed the judge and fell on the ground near the judge’s podium. Clearly the judge sahib was not amused!
Raseeoddin was upset that the judge had cancelled his bail after the police complained that he was trying to threaten police officers before the court proceedings began!
Prakash Nikam, superintendent of police, visited the court later. He told the mediathat separate cases had been registered against Raseeodin for threatening the police officers on duty, and throwing the slipper at the judge.
Now, guess what! The slipper has put a brake on the already slowly turning wheel of justice! The Bidar Bar Association president Anil Kumar Karanji announced that the lawyers were boycotting court on Monday and Tuesday to protest against the attempt to disrespect the court! So in fact the lawyers have declared a two day holiday, which will inconvenience even more people.
Judge Kumar is understandably unnerved at the flying flip-flop. Court sources said that the district judge would later take a call on referring the case to another judge after this incident.
There is no indication as to whether Raseeodin was ‘flying high’ on the green weed, but now the Ganja man is well and truly grounded!
